Powell House — Deepening Our Worship
October 4 - October 6
Save the date! Purchase Meeting is planning a retreat at Powell House, which will be facilitated by Jon Berry. Read on to find out more about Jon:
All our life can be a deepening of our worship if we are open to it. How, then, can we be more open? This has been one of the questions Jon Berry has pursued as he has stepped back from a career in journalism and business to begin a new path in ministry. It has led him to study not only his own tradition of Quakerism, but what can be learned from other faiths, from Buddhism, to Islam, to Hinduism, to Judeo-Christian belief, scripture, and contemplative practice.
Jon grew up in West Richmond Friends Meeting, a pastored Quaker meeting in Richmond, Indiana. His commitment to Friends deepened as an adult when he and his wife introduced their children to Quakerism at Strawberry Creek Meeting in Berkeley, California, then deepened again when the family moved east and began attending Purchase Friends Meeting.
Jon is a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. After starting his Masters of Divinity studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, he returned to Earlham to complete his M.Div. at Earlham School of Religion.
He began training for chaplaincy in 2018 at IU Health’s Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
